For this particular blog, I recommend you press play on the video below and listen to the song while you're reading.
Johnny (as in, John Mayer) has many songs that touch many parts of my vertebrae (like, a lot), but there's one song that goes beyond my physical matter, into the core of an intangible spot somewhere near where the area of my heart is.
I don't just like this song. I don't just love this song. I live this song (like + love = live? Seriously, though...).
Every time I hear it, I feel everything; his cryptic words, the enthralling, melodious plucking of his guitar strings, the heavy-grounded bass and the dependable drum... I feel it all.
This song is special to me because it's utterly and absolutely vulnerable; All the time we waste arming ourselves with aluminum shields galore, when what we really feel is the need to not be forgotten. And the truth is, as he says, "I'm scared you'll forget about me."
This beautiful piece of work is called Edge of Desire. If you haven't heard it, take a listen.
I hope that you all take the time to disrobe yourselves of your heavy shields. Someday, I hope you will allow yourselves to love and be loved.
