We unconsciously shape ourselves into what we think is our partners most ideal image of us is. It's a natural conformity. They like playing Tetris, we like playing Tetris, too. They like watching basketball, we like watching basketball, too.
We do this, because we want to become that perfect partner for them!
All of that said, if you really love someone, you'll go out of your way to become someone else, thus being disingenuous to your original self, as you're unconsciously becoming someone else.
This can be good, in the case of a person with a bad streak making the effort to change themselves in the hopes of becoming better for their partner, as their partner see's the potential for them to be; however, sometimes, it could mean something more superficial.
Depends on how you digest the diction.
